She is a Packers fan and he roots for the Vikings. She even had her birthday on the day of Super Bowl XLIX. There are a lot of football linkages with this couple but nothing tops showing up to their engagement session wearing jerseys of their favorite football teams!
Meet Michelle and Levi! They make for a really fun and cute couple. Michelle and Levi got engaged at South Mountain. So it made perfect sense for us to get together at South Mountain Park for their engagement session and make some gorgeous pictures! Not to mention, South Mountain Park is one of the best locations for Engagement Sessions in Phoenix!
Posting a few of my very favorites.

Well, instead of picking just a single location that I love, I thought of doing a mini-series of blog posts highlighting a few of my favorite locations in Phoenix area - ideal for engagements or anniversary sessions for couples. In each post, I will feature one such location, explain what I like about it, and share with you some of the pictures I've shot at that location. That way, if you are a couple exploring location options in Phoenix for your engagement or anniversary photo session, this mini-series will help you out a bit. Sound good? Let's dive in.
In this very first post in the series, I am going to introduce you to Scorpion Gulch. Wait, what? Scorpion what?
It's free and easy. Here's what you can win:
Don’t let the name Scorpion Gulch throw you off! It’s a gorgeous location that helps make beautiful pictures – ideal for engagement sessions, anniversary sessions or just about any photo session for couples. Located near South Mountain Park in Phoenix, Scorpion Gulch was built as a home and store in 1930s and was in operation right through the 60s. Today, the roof of the building is completely gone, window frames are in ruins and the walls weathered out.
Couples who want their engagement photos done at a location that is a bit different from the normal, rustic, and has the look of ruins!
You know what’s even better? There is pretty much the entire South Mountain Park, which is very accessible from this location, if the couple wants to include some desert vegetation and Arizona rocks as part of their photos.
For those couples who love this place but still want a little bit of “green” included in their pictures, I take them down to Cesar Chavez Park which is about 5 miles from Scorpion Gulch. That park is one beautiful place! Plenty of green trees, a big lake right in the middle of it, and clean grass. This makes it a great location to shoot some beautiful romantic pictures that nicely contrast with the rugged pictures from Scorpion Gulch.
Each of these two locations has enough to offer to stand on its own. However, stopping by at Cesar Chavez Park after I’ve exhausted shooting around South Mountain area is my favorite thing to do! It nicely rounds out a beautiful engagement session for couples.
If you’re a couple exploring locations in Phoenix area for an engagement, anniversary or a relationship milestone session, I hope you found this post useful. If you've any questions for me, I’d love to answer those so please feel free to send me an email.
In my next blog post (UPDATE: Check out Part 2 and Part 3 of this mini-series!), I will highlight another one of my favorite locations for shooting engagement sessions in Phoenix! Stay tuned.
